Most homes these days are equipped with some form of insulation to protect you from the elements. Insulation is vital to keeping our house at the right temperature as well as having some other useful properties. Thermal insulation has many functions and as such there is more than one type available on the market.

Less dense thermal insulation material generally works better as insulators than anything else. Wood can be effective as a thermal insulator but there are more modern options available. Metal is one of the worst insulators. Insulating materials work by trapping air in their cavities, like foam. This air is then what provides the insulation.

As has been said, materials differ. One form, called blankets, is created into bats or rolls and are highly flexible material. Many are flame resistant which is important in your home as it can get very hot.

You can also get a spray form of insulation which is blown into cavities in walls and into attics which resist air infiltration. Finally rigid insulation which is commonly used to cover pipes which typically provides thermal and acoustical insulation, with little to no heat loss.

There are other forms of thermal insulation but these are the most popular on the market. It’s not something we typically think of when we are sitting inside a warm home or office, safe from the elements outdoors.

There are products available to fit every space and pocket. The correct form of insulation for your home or office can be so important in protecting us from drafts, overheating and freezing. There are many resources available to help you with your thermal insulation material choices, so do not feel that it’s a daunting task. Fitting the wrong materials for your insulation needs will cost you money and waste your valuable time. Insulation can serve to guard against the elements, and can do a very effective job when used efficiently. Everyone needs thermal insulation.
